Sizing a bracelet

Wrap a strip of paper or a tape measure snugly around your wrist just below the wrist bone and note the measurement. For a tennis bracelet, add roughly half an inch. It should sit loosely enough to rotate but not so loose that the clasp rides to the underside of the wrist. Most adult women land between six and a half and seven and a half inches, which is why we finish at seven.

If you want a different length, say so at checkout or call the shop before your piece is made. Because everything is made to order there is no charge and no delay for a length change. Adjustment after delivery is also available at cost.

Sizing a necklace

Eighteen inches sits at or just below the collarbone on most people, which is where a tennis necklace is designed to be seen. Sixteen inches sits higher and closer to the base of the throat. Twenty inches and above will fall onto the chest and is worth considering if you intend to layer.

Wearing it

Diamonds are the hardest natural material there is, and gold is not. Almost every problem with a diamond bracelet is a gold problem: a bent link, a worn prong, a clasp that has been pulled. Take the piece off before the gym, before swimming, and before anything involving sand.

Lotion, sunscreen and hairspray build a film on the underside of the stones, which is the single most common reason a bracelet stops looking bright. It is not damage and it cleans off completely.

Cleaning it

Warm water, a drop of plain dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Brush from underneath, where the film actually sits, rinse, and dry with a lint free cloth. Do this every few weeks and the piece will look the way it did when it arrived.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home. They are fine in professional hands and they are an excellent way to shake a stone loose from a prong that had already started to wear.

Checking it

Once a year, run your fingertip along the underside of the line. If you feel a stone move, or you catch a prong on fabric, stop wearing it and bring it in. A prong retipped early costs very little. A stone lost from the middle of a matched line is a much larger problem, because we then have to match a replacement to nineteen others.

Storage

Flat, in the box it came in, on its own. Diamonds scratch gold, so a bracelet loose in a drawer with other jewellery will mark everything around it, including other diamond pieces.
