Natural, not grown

Every stone we set is a mined natural diamond. We have no objection to laboratory grown stones as a product, but they are a different market with a different price curve, and mixing the two inside one collection does customers no favours. If you are buying here, you are buying natural.

F colour

F is the bottom of the colourless range, one grade below the E and D stones that carry a meaningful premium for a difference most people cannot see once a stone is set in gold. It is the point on the scale where you stop paying for a certificate and start paying for the diamond.

VS clarity

Very Slightly Included. Inclusions are present under ten times magnification and are not visible to the eye in the finished piece. In a tennis line this matters more than it does in a solitaire, because you are looking at twenty or forty stones at once and a single visibly included stone breaks the whole run.

Matching, which is the real work

Grades describe a stone in isolation. A bracelet is not a stone in isolation. Two diamonds can share a weight and a grade and still sit badly beside each other, because cut proportions differ enough to change how each one returns light.

So we sort. Stones are laid out, compared under the same light, and moved until the line reads evenly from clasp to clasp. On a graduated piece there is a second pass to make sure the taper is smooth rather than stepped. This is the slowest part of making a bracelet and the first thing you would notice if we skipped it.

Settings

We use four prong, three prong and bezel settings across the collection, and they are genuinely different products rather than styling choices.

• Four prong leaves the most stone standing above the metal. It is the brightest of the three from a distance and the most traditional.
• Three prong shows slightly less metal from above, which makes the line read a little more delicate at the same carat weight.
• Bezel wraps a rim of gold around each stone. It reads softer and more modern, it protects the girdle, and it is the setting we recommend for anyone who wears a bracelet every day without taking it off.

Gold

14K, which is 58.5 percent gold, in white, yellow and rose. We use 14K rather than 18K across the collection because a tennis bracelet is a structural object as much as a decorative one. The links carry weight and take knocks, and 14K is meaningfully harder. White gold is rhodium plated, as all white gold is; expect to have it replated every few years with normal wear.

Appraisal

Every order ships with a written appraisal describing the piece, its metal, its total carat weight, and its grades, for authenticity and insurance purposes. If your insurer wants something in a particular format, call the shop and we will do our best to match it.
